Contemporary Papermaking explores methods for using paper as an expressive medium that enhances our visual language. We will use abaca, flax, hemp and foraged garden plants to make paper using a traditional Western Style “dip method”. You will learn how to embed, layer, color and shape this malleable material. We will study various hand manipulation and drying procedures that highlight the characteristics of different fibers. These basic techniques can be mimicked in your home studio. The class will culminate in creating small, personal books of our handmade papers.
