From the "National Treasure" Collection
Itajime-shi is a vibrant paper, specially handmade by Mr. Haruhiko Tamura who, under Japanese law, has been designated a "Living National Treasure" for his production of this traditionally handmade art paper. Using the purest kozo (mulberry) fibers, first, the white sheets of paper are formed following a 1500-year old tradition of Japanese hand-papermaking. After the sheets are dried, each sheet is dyed using a Japanese technique called "kyoketchi zome" where the paper is folded, in this case into a square, clamped between pieces of wood, and then the corners are dipped into light-fast pigments. The color mainly soaks into the folds of the square, resulting in a repeating, square-patterned sheet in assorted bold colors.

This paper is suitable for collage work, paper flowers and other handicrafts.

Package contains sixteen 6.5"x 9.5" sheets.
