Itajime-shi Lightweight is a soft, colorful paper, specially hand-dyed by Mr. Haruhiko Tamura who, under Japanese law, has been designated a "Living National Treasure" for his production of this traditionally handmade art paper.
Using the purest kozo (mulberry) fibers, first, thin white sheets of paper areformed following a 1500-year old tradition of Japanese hand-papermaking. After the sheets are dried, each sheet is dyed using a Japanese technique called "kyoketchi zome" where the paper is folded, in this case into a rectangle, clamped between pieces of wood, and then the sides of the rectangle are dipped into light-fast pigments. When the rectangle is unfolded, the result is a striped pattern, against a dyed background.
This paper is suitable for collage work, paper flowers and other handicrafts.
Package contains sixteen 5"x 8" sheets.
